Etonbury Academy

Care, Guidance and Support

Etonbury Academy cares deeply for every single student in our care. We know that students deserve to feel safe, supported, respected and valued. We ensure that long before a student joins us we are working with the lower feeder schools to get to know your son or daughter so that when the time for transfer comes, a relationship has already started to build and they feel happy, confident and able to access the new opportunities that becoming a student at Etonbury brings.

We have a qualified, proactive and very experienced pastoral care and support team who closely monitor the needs and wellbeing of all students, and work with staff and external agencies (when needed) to ensure ever child and indeed every family receives the help and support they need to flourish. We have extended our outreach work to include supporting families who may need it from time to time, and further out into the community. We know that a great education starts at home, and we work with every parent, carer and professional to facilitate that.

We always listen, we always care, and we always want to help.

Within the school the student body is organised into form groups, with their own form tutor who has direct responsibility for student welfare in the first instance. There are six form groups per year group, with a Head of Year who has direct oversight and responsibility for the welfare and progress of all the students in their year. The Head of Year stays with the year group as they progress up the school from Year 7 onward.

For our new and younger students they are also put into form groups and have a Head of Year 5 & 6, but also benefit from a Head of Key Stage 2 primary specialist leader who has direct responsibility for both year groups.

Etonbury Academy views every aspect of student welfare as integral to our mission to deliver the best life-enhancing education experience anywhere. So not only do we have a dedicated pastoral support team, but we also have a school health officer and counsellor.

Anyone and everyone can need some extra help and support sometimes. We have designed our pastoral system to ensure this happens fast and is effective.

Our PSHCE programme is all encompassing and operates across all year groups ensuring that students receive the life skills and information they need to keep themselves safe, healthy and happy. Full details of this programme are explained to parents at key points in their child’s educational journey with us, and there is plenty of time for discussion and reflection.

During their time with us, every student will grow from a young child to a young adult. This journey, unique to every student, will be full of challenge, the occasional failure, care, love, determination and success. It will be a remarkable seven years, but we are determined that when it is complete every student will look back not only with memories that last a lifetime, but will look forward with confidence to a wonderful future.
